     Viikinkien riimut olivat kansan käytössä Ruotsissa vielä 1900-luvulla. Riimuaakkoset, joilla viikingit piirsivät muistokivensä, olivat metsien keskellä eläneen eristyneen yhteisön käypää kirjoitusta, vaikka muualla Ruotsissa tunnettiin vain kristinuskon tuomat latinalaiset aakkoset. Älvdalenissa elää yhä myös kieli, josta nykyruotsia osaamalla ei selvää saa. YLE uutiset.
